In early January, twenty-six Local 481 members came to the oldest community theatre in the United States to build the set for The Footlight Club production of Boeing Boeing. The set build was the focus of two Construction Dept. classes.
This partnership began three years ago through the efforts of Local 481 members Jay Larson, Adam McClain and Mike Krause. The union first built the set for Wait Until Dark and continued last year with the Sound of Music set build. This is a win-win for Local 481 because it gives members a useful hands-on training opportunity and delivers a high quality set to a non-profit community organization. Says IATSE Local 481 President John Gates, "We are happy to donate all the materials and labor to meet both of our needs."
"The set is a critical character in our show," says producer Charlotte Dietz. "The set for Boeing Boeing has seven doors and characters running on and off the stage. A well designed and built set is critical for the actors and the audience. We couldn't be more delighted."
